We’ve teamed up with Dr Jeni Riley, a specialist in early childhood literacy at Institute of Education, University of London, to offer advice on ways to enthuse children and how to use the reading experience to maximise their educational development.

Jeni has an international reputation as a specialist in early childhood literacy, having been active in the field of language and literacy development for many years as a class teacher, university academic, writer and researcher.

Supporting a child to become literate is the greatest gift any parent can give a child. Literacy is the gateway to success at school – starting the reading habit early is essential to give children both the motivation and insight into the literacy world – which underpins learning to read and write.

I was delighted to discover that 78% of parents embrace new technology as a positive part of their child’s literacy development. Reading should be fun, and new engaging tools that facilitate this, whilst exciting and motivating children, can only be a good thing.
